Sydney's Historic Adult Entertainment Was in Kings Cross

Kings Cross was Sydney's red-light district for most of the 20th century — strip clubs, adult theaters, and regulated adult venues stacked along Darlinghurst Road. The lockout laws and neighborhood gentrification wound that scene down substantially; a much smaller number of adult venues remain in the area.

NSW law regulates adult entertainment venues through specific licensing. The remaining licensed strip clubs — Showgirls Bar 20, Men's Gallery Sydney — operate mostly in the CBD and around Kings Cross in reduced form.

Kings Cross today is transitioning toward a mix of residential and hospitality. The old street-level visibility of the scene is essentially gone; what remains operates under tighter regulatory parameters.
